What is the Data Protection Act and how does it affect me?
The Data Protection Act 1998 implemented the EU Data Protection Directive and replaced the 1984 Act.
The Data Protection Act 1998 was replaced the 1984 Act and covers:
- Our own staff
- Applicants for interim and permanent vacancies
- Clients who are individuals or partnerships (but not limited companies)
- Details of potential client individuals held on a marketing database
- Details of candidates held on a marketing database.
The Act gives you the right to access information held about you by organisations, it governs how organisations can use the personal information that they hold - including how they acquire, store, share or dispose of it.
We, as holders of personal data, are obliged to process this data fairly and lawfully and therefore:
- You will always be asked to give your consent before any data is passed on
- You will only be asked for such information that is relevant to the employment you are seeking
- If the data is to be used for any purpose other than the search for suitable employment (eg. Marketing purposes) we will ask for your consent before proceeding.
Why do you process this data?
- We process and store this data to aid the recruitment process
- By registering your details, you consent to us collecting and processing sensitive personal data supplied by you. You also consent to us disclosing this information to prospective employers and clients in connection with the recruitment process.
Can I see my personal data stored by you?
- Yes. Requests must be made in writing and we will respond promptly, and in any case within 40 days. We are not obliged to comply with the request unless we are satisfied as to your identity.
How is this data safeguarded?
- The security of your data is paramount. Access to your personal data is only given to our staff and third parties who help us to process data and help with the recruitment process.
How do I remove my name from your database?
- We aim to remain with our candidates throughout their career until they retire - we like to keep in contact with good people! If you wish to be removed from the database for any reason please contact us.
